Community Organizer (*2)
Start Date: April 29th, 2024 (35 hours per week, total of 8 weeks, $16.55 / hr)
Overview:
As a Community Organizers Summer Intern, you will be an integral part of our organization's efforts to engage and empower local communities. You will work closely with our team to plan, coordinate, and execute various community events, initiatives, and outreach programs.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community organizing, event management, and grassroots advocacy.
Responsibilities:
Event Planning and Execution:
• Collaborate with the team to plan and organize community events, including workshops, town halls, and volunteer activities.
• Assist in logistical arrangements such as venue booking, equipment setup, and catering services.
• Support event promotion efforts through social media, email campaigns, and community outreach. Community Outreach:
• Conduct outreach activities to engage community members and stakeholders.
• Assist in building and maintaining relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community leaders. Volunteer Coordination:
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support various community initiatives and events.
• Coordinate volunteer schedules, assignments, and communication to ensure smooth operations. Data Management and Analysis:
• Collect and organize data related to community engagement activities, event attendance, and volunteer participation.
• Assist in analyzing data to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach strategies and identify areas for improvement. Administrative Support:
• Provide general administrative support to the community organizing team, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and responding to inquiries.
• Assist in maintaining accurate records, files, and databases related to community initiatives. Qualifications:
• at least 15 years of age at the start of employment;
• a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
• legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
• Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in a related field such as business and commerce, finance, community development, sociology, data science, or communications.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms.
• Previous experience in community organizing, event planning, or volunteer coordination is a plus. Duration: This is a full-time, paid internship position lasting for : 8 weeks, starting from 29th, April, 2024; 35 hours per week
